Riding in a Tank - Sometimes It Helps, Sometimes It Doesn't

Thatcher vs. Dukakis

Paul Brandus (Apr. 8, 2013)

Of politics, it is often said that "perception is reality." Here's a good example: the late British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher riding in a tank. No one questioned her toughness, her backbone, her commitment to national defense. In contrast, when Michael Dukakis - the Democratic party's nominee for President in 1988 - rode in one, he became the target of ridicule. Perception? Or reality?
